March 30 Presentation

Good Morning!

On Monday, March 30, sophomore, junior, and senior students will be attending a presentation in regard to making good decisions and how poor decisions lead to devastating consequences. Sparta Police Officer Mark Nelson will be going through the importance of driving safely, while Mr. Roger Ketterling will be discussing his situation due to a poor decision made by other person. Mr. Ketterling was hit by a drunk driver 28 years ago in the Twin Cities and was in the hospital in a coma. When his family decided to pull the life support he miraculously lived.
Sparta High School will be on a Grad Group schedule this day, and the presentation will at approximately 9:15. Freshman students will be going through an activity that will prepare them for the end of the year.

Early Release Day

Good Morning!

Today, SASD will be operating on a two hour early release today.  All district schools and busing will be two hours earlier than normal for staff development. During our staff development, SASD will be having our second annual Technology Summit.  At this summit, teachers will be splitting into groups to learn about a variety of technology topics including Google, Schoology, and YouTube to name a few.

Mid Term Ends

Good Morning!

We are past the half way point for 3rd quarter and our students are working very hard! Our juniors worked very hard at last week's ACT and WorkKeys assessments.  Our spring sports are right around that corner as well, and the weather is turning nice.  Please remember to encourage all students to get plenty of rest and always be safe, responsible, respectful, and give their best effort at all times.

Good Luck SHS Dance Team at State!!!

Congratulations to our Dance Team on earning their way to state!!!!  Good luck this weekend in La Crosse as they compete at approximately 4:15 p.m. at the La Crosse Center.

Final Exam Schedule for Jan. 26-28

Sparta High School Final Exam Schedule

January 26 (hours 1-3), 27 (hours 4-6), and 28 (hours 7-8) will be set aside for final exams (please see the schedule below). Three days of finals are more beneficial to students as they do not have to prepare for four finals in one day. Students must arrive to their finals on time or they will have to take their finals during the school wide resource/test make up time at of the day.  The resource time at the end of the day is for students to get help for any upcoming exams. Students who do not have final exams are not required to attend school during that specific hour, but are strongly encouraged to remain in the LMC or Commons area to study. Since the rest of the district will be on their own schedules, students must not go on any other district property during SHS class time.  The 2^nd semester will start on January 29, and we do not have school on January 30.

Finals January 26/27/28

7:40-7:55 (resource)

8:00-9:30 (period 1/ 4/ 7)

9:40-11:10 (period 2/5/8)

11:10-11:55 (lunch for the first 30 minutes and resource for last 15 minutes)

12:00-1:30 (period 3/6)

1:30-3:01 (School wide resource/test make up)

(Busses will run on their normal schedules during final exams)

Freshman Transition Elective Day

Thank you to all the students of the Class of 2019 on a very successful Elective Transition Day!!!  Students went to every elective area of SHS to speak with faculty and see first hand what the courese entail.  Before the elective tour, students ate at SHS to understand the lunch process.  The goal of our Freshman Transition Program is to make the students and parents the most comfortable we can to ensure the transition from the middle school to SHS is as smooth as possible.  Also, thanks to the 25 junior mentors who assisted the Class of 2019!!!

Freshman Transition Day Activities Postponed to Jan. 12

Due to the dangerous weather and school closing on Wednesday, we will be postponing our Freshman Transition Activities until Monday, January 12.  We will be running the same bus schedule and activities as previously planned, just a few days later...

8th Grade Student/Parent Night

Thank you to all the parents, guardians, and 8th grade students who attended our annual transition/registration night at SHS.  We had a good turn out and answered a lot of good questions.  For parents who missed the meeting, on Wednesday, our 8th grade students will be coming to SHS to have lunch and tour SHS's elective offerings in preparation for registration for next year. SHS leaders will be speaking with 8th grade students on Thursday and Friday of this week to go through the registration process.

There was no materials given out at the meeting, however our Elective Day Book and Course Book are available on our Guidance website.
